RDM and Feedback Protocols
The Institute for Feedback Excellence plans to support all recognized industry-standard feedback protocols. At this time, these protocols include Remote Device Management (RDM), Architecture for Control Networks (ACN), and ArtNet.
RDM will be tested first.
Also known as E1.20, RDM is the first complete feedback standard to be adopted by the Entertainment Technology and Services Association, or ESTA, a nonprofit organization. Download a copy of the RDM standard here.
RDM serves as the feedback component for DMX512, and it's carried on the same physical pair of wires (pins 2 and 3). This means that a responder must speak only when spoken to in order avoid data collisions and the collapse of the communications link.
Passing the RDM test yields the equipment IFE certification and the right to use the "IFE Verified" label/logo on the device.
